Sundek of Washington

2010 Second Place Stamped Concrete Overlay Over 1500 SF

Project Name: Everett
Project Address: Washington, DC
Total Square footage: Over 1500 square feet

Our friend and commissioned agent John W. from Backyard Creations referred us to this job while the customers were still living in Pennsylvania. Dick went out to measure up the indoor pool deck, which was undergoing major reconstruction. While out there, he also measured the outdoor surrounding walkway, which was a major eyesore or cracked, sunken gray slate tiles. Ms. Everett and her husband wanted something completely different for their new retirement home in the rolling hills of Remington, VA. – Something warm that blended in with nature’s beauty that surrounded them. The solution? A stamped overlay with a custom stone pattern in a plethora of warm colors that complimented the home. The indoor pool deck, which the customers had wanted in the same pattern as the walkway, was instead done in a classic texture with a stamped overlay custom stone pattern on the coping, bringing the outdoor design into the bright atrium without overwhelming the existing stone work.

We faced a major challenge in trying to remove the slate work while maintaining the integrity and appearance of the existing brick borders. When the slate was removed from the walkway, we had to pour 13 sq. yards of concrete to make up the deficit (we brought in two truckloads and our crews poured and spread). There was so much debris that we had to have the roll off emptied at least six times (not cheap). And most of the status updates were done via email with the customer, who was only able to visit the site on occasion. Additionally, the customer found some ceramic turtles that she wanted to be incorporated into the pool deck and Armando worked with her to find just the right places to put them.

In the end, the customers were so satisfied that we then SUNDEK’s their three stall garage and they have asked that we use them as a reference for any jobs in the future.
