Sun Surfaces of Orlando
Second Place Overlay Spray Texture (Classic) Over 5000 SF
Project Name: Bithlo Splash Pad
Project Address: Orlando, Florida
Total Square footage: Over 5000 square feet
In August of 2011, Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved funding for the Bithlo Splash Pad at the community Park. In May of 2012 Sun Surfaces of Orlando was contacted by MRI Architects to integrate the Sundek Classic Texture system into a new Splash Pad that Orange County Parks and Recreation was going to build. After months of discussion with pricing and designs, the county chose an integrated concrete design instead of the Sundek Spray Texture system.
In March of 2013, Sun Surfaces of Orlando was contacted and told the scope of the project has changed and that Sundek Classic Textured system was specified for the project. One of the biggest challenges the county and the architects faced was that they wanted a multi-color deck system installed with the integration of circle designs throughout the pad. Sundek stepped up to the plate and in working with the contractor had joints cut where each transition from color to color were installed. Each of the joints would then be filled with a urethane sealant and then Sundek Finish Coat acrylic color applied to each section of the design. After hours of taping off the design and days of installation in the Florida heat, the project was completed in time for the County grand opening on June 24, 2013.
Residents of Bithlo have a Splash pad to cool off on the hot Florida days. “I’ve received overwhelmingly positive responses with the opening of the Bithlo splash pad. Orange County is invested in providing recreational activates for our children and the splash pad has been a big hit,” Says Orange County District 5 Commissioner Ted Edwards.
