Tips for Taking Care of Decorative Concrete

Decorative Concrete and stamped concrete are quite popular today, particularly for outdoor patios and decks. Some homeowners are even choosing to use this style for part of the interior of their homes. It has a number of benefits, including an array of colors, designs, and styles, and it happens to be quite durable. The durability helps to make it a nice choice for outdoors, as it is able to withstand a variety of different types of environmental conditions. The concrete does not require too much in the way of maintenance either, but it is a good idea to make sure you provide it with the small bit of care it does need, just to keep it looking great longer.

Keeping It Clean

Cleaning decorative concrete is quite simple. The first step is to make sure you sweep away any debris that accumulates. Do this regularly to ensure it keeps looking nice. Of course, sometimes, it might need to have a bit of a deeper cleaning. Fortunately, this is quite easy, as well. You will only need some water and a bit of soap to scrub and mop the flooring to get up any dirt that accumulates.

You can let the concrete dry naturally, which should only take about 2-3 hours or so. However, if you want it to dry even faster, you could use a large fan and face it toward the floor or even a leaf blower. If you plan to have guests come over to the house, then this is a nice and fast way to make sure the floors are dry.

Sealing the Concrete

At the time of installation of the patio, it is important to ensure the use of a sealer. Most contractors will seal the concrete once it is in place. This helps to keep the concrete in good shape, and it is instrumental in protecting it from weathering effects. The sealant can also ake sure the decorative concrete keeps its luster longer. Generally, contractors will apply a sealer a few months after construction, and they will suggest reapplying a sealer every couple of years thereafter.

Depending on the amount of traffic the concrete gets, as well as the geographic location, they might need sealing more or less often. Homeowners should always make sure to ask their contractor about the best sealing, as well as the best cleaning methods for their decorative concrete.
